Updated Covid Guidance

  • Updated Guidance: The updated Respiratory Virus Guidance recommends that people stay home and away from others until at least 24 hours after both their symptoms are getting better overall, and they have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).

  • In light of this update, Austin ISD will be changing the district policy for staff and students to align with the updated CDC Respiratory Virus Guidance. As such, effective Monday, March 18, 2024, AISD Health Services and Nursing will recommend (but not require) students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 to be out for 24 hours after the date of test positivity. Masking upon return to school will remain optional, but recommended for 5 days if symptomatic.

Precautions on campus

  • Air purifiers in all classrooms
  • Masks available for any student or staff member who would like one
  • Sanitizer and wipes are available for all staff to clean heavy traffic areas in their classrooms

What we are not doing

  • Individually screen/temperature check each person entering the building.
  • Mandate masks for students or staff
  • Contact tracing

QUESTIONS ABOUT RETURNING TO SCHOOL AFTER QUARANTINE AND/OR BEING SYMPTOMATIC

If you’re feeling sick

If you or your child are feeling sick, regardless if they are vaccinated or not, please keep them home and contact your medical provider and campus as soon as possible.

A fever is considered 100.0 degrees F or higher. Please do not administer fever reducing medication and send your student to school.

A student must be fever free for 24 hours, without fever reducing medication, prior to returning to school.

What to do if your student tests positive
